Contains a variety of materials including: a County Court account book; applications to create voting precincts; applications for soft-drink licenses; appointments to office; arrest warrants (some incl. case histories and actions taken); articles of agreement (ex. 1861 Militia draft substitute agreement); a typescript "Roll of colored voters in Rockingham in the early 1900's;" complaints of illegal sales of poison; CSA military telegraph reports for the Harrisonburg office; delivery bonds; debt contracts; and juror lists. (CON'T) Also included are a number of licenses to: sell merchandise, practice as a physician or attorney, operate as a daguerrian artist and operate stills, etc. (ex. inn license to Samuel Gay of Harrrisonburg, 1780); oaths of office; postal accounts for Parnassus, Va.; prohibition petition; promisories; receipts and applications for business charters (ex. Dayton Harness Co., Joseph Ney & Sons Co., Valley Hardware Co., milling companies, gas companies, 1898 Gibbs Automobile Gate Co.); records and claims against estates; and recognizance bonds. Road documents include petitions for: a Harrisonburg main street, 1796, a road from Woodstock to Staunton, 1796, a road from Harrisonburg to Richmond, 1800, a request to remove the toll on Mt. Clinton Pike, 1906-07. There are also summonses and subpoenas, and other miscellaneous documents (ex. a documents on the condition of Rockingham County jail). Many of the above documents are from the Rockingham County Circuit Court and Sherriff's Office; some are records from Shenandoah County.
